17 PERSONS IN PRISON FOR TERRORISM

SARAJEVO, June 13 /SRNA/ - Sixteen persons are serving their prison terms in prisons in BiH for terrorism, and one person is in prison for illegal formation of and joining foreign para-military or para-police units.

Eleven of them are in the Zenica prison, three are in Sarajevo, two in Busovaca and one in Doboj, says the BiH Ministry of Justice in a response to a question from Maja Gasal Vrazalica, a DF member of the BiH House of Representatives.

Vrazalica is interested to find out if there is a special program for these people who would be monitored by experts for their deradicalization and resocialization, and wants to know who are members of a team working with these inmates.

The BiH Ministry of Justice says in its response that in the meantime, the BiH Court sentenced one person to three years in prison for illegal formation of and joining foreign para-military or para-police units.

“In keeping with the Law on the Execution of Criminal Sanctions, Detention and Other Measures, there is a special program for these inmates which is determined by correctional service of the correctional facility after an inmate spends 30 days in the reception department of the facility,” says Justice Minister Josip Grubesa in the response.

A personality assessment for every inmate is conducted in these reception departments for the sake of determining an individual treatment that is adapted to reaching success and goal of the punishing.

Philologists, pedagogues, social workers, doctors, instructors, lawyers and other experts are taking part in the treatment.

The BiH Ministry of Justice says that BiH is the first country in the European jurisdiction to implement the project titled “support to reintegration of violent and extremist prisoners in BiH” that was supported by the British Government, in cooperation with the Council of Europe.

As a result of the project, a guidebook for assessment and rehabilitation of violent and extremist prisoners in BiH has been drafted, in keeping with European standards in this field. /end/sg
