DODIK AGREES WITH PALMER ON DEVELOPMENT OF NEW RELATIONS WITH AMERICA

SARAJEVO, December 5 /SRNA/ - The Chairman of the BiH Presidency, Milorad Dodik, agreed today with the Deputy Assistant US Secretary of State, Matthew Palmer, on the development of new relations between BiH and the US, and Palmer said that he supports the Dayton Agreement, Republika Srpska, its institutions and symbols as long as they are in keeping with the law.

At a meeting with Palmer, Dodik said that he respects the US as a powerful country, that he supports cooperation, open communication with US officials, but that due to frequent foreign interventions, strength for creativity has been lost in BiH, which should be given a chance to find internal consensus on many issues on its own.

He has said that he works in keeping with its obligations, and not under pressures, and that he is not a kind of a politician who will dramatically change his policy, says a press release from the BiH Presidency.

“The Chairman of the BiH Presidency agreed with the Deputy Assistant US Secretary of State on the development of new ways for new relations between the US and BiH, but stressed that as far as he personally is concerned, he does not beg for the lifting of sanctions imposed against him by the US,” says a press release.

In his response to Palmer’s remark that the Partnership for Peace is not a final NATO status Dodik has said that he is committed to reducing the military potential of BiH and to demilitarization, and that he is against BiH’s accession to NATO for well known reasons.

He has said that the formation of governments in BiH is the crucial issue now and that he is of the opinion that conditions have been created for this to happen.

Palmer told Dodik that he supports the Dayton Agreement, Republika Srpska, its institutions and symbols as long as they are in keeping with the law.

He has said that he is glad for his upcoming visit to Banjaluka, stressing that that which America wants is not so much different from that which the whole of BiH wants.

The meeting was also attended by the departing US Ambassador to BiH, Maureen Cormack. /end/sg
