12TH KUSTENDORF FESTIVAL OPENS

MOKRA GORA, January 12 /SRNA/ - The 12th International Film and Music Festival “Kustendorf” opened last night in Mecavnik, on Mokra Gora Mountain.

The festival was opened with a performance by artists from the Circus Sphere where Sanja Radulovic, Ivana Koraksic, Kristina Sormaz, Vojislav Santic and members of the No Smoking Orchestra presented themselves to the audience.

The artistic director of the Festival, Emir Kusturica, said while opening the Festival that the Festival remains true to turning utopia to reality, that the brains of young and old people are united in a holy union, and that good films will be visible like victorious flags on which we “will stop our view” now and then and which will “accelerate our heart beat.”

While addressing those present, the Serbian Minister of Culture and Information, Vladan Vukosavljevic, has said that it is the dream of every village to become a capital.

“It happened that Kustendorf, that is being held in a mountainous part of Serbia in January, has been the capital of film arts of the whole world for 12 years,” he said.

He has added that the light from Mecavnik has been lighting not only the film art but the whole culture and arts in the world for 12 years in a specific and valuable manner.

According to him, this is the place where young people from the whole world gather to learn from famous, great and significant artists, and “it is very important that paths they have taken are also taken by young lions.”

“It is the dream of every egg to become a living creature, and the dream of every lion is to see his descendants. I believe that Emir Kusturica as a relatively old lion, as well as all great film artists, will be satisfied to see a pack of young lions he fed with his art, whom he gathered here,” Vukosavljevic has said.

He wished Kusturica much success and that the light from Mecavnik lighten the Serbian and world culture in the years to come.

Kusturica presented famous Serbian and Yugoslav actor Slavko Stimac with an “award for future films.”

Kusturica has said that Stimac is a unique appearance in the world of movies.

“No one has ever expressed emotions so directly like Slavko and no one has ever spoken a language which is a combination of all versions of languages spoken in the Balkans,” Kusturica has said.

According to him, only Pavle Vujisic was like that.

Stimac has thanked for the award and said that he is preparing future movies, that he wishes Kusturica many movies and that this unique festival last for a long time.

“Thank you, it is my honor. We all like to be awarded recognition, but when it is from someone who is from your profession and who is a great master of his craft, then this is a special satisfaction,” Stimac has said.

After the solemn opening ceremony, the new movie by Emir Kusturica “Pepe – A Supreme Life” was screened. The movie depicts the last two days in office of the former President of Uruguay, Jose Mujica, and after the movie, a workshop with Kusturica was announced.

The International Film and Music Festival Kustendorf is organized by the Rasta International Production Company and under the auspices of the Serbian Ministry of Information and Culture, the town of Mecavnik and the TNSO Group.

The Festival will end on January 16. /end/sg
