SARAJEVO, February 11 /SRNA/ - Ambassadors of certain countries in Bosnia and Herzegovina had problems entering the Stadium Asim Ferhatovic Hase in Sarajevo for the opening ceremony of the European Youth Olympic Festival EYOF 2019 as they were advised to take a wrong entrance which was not planned for VIPs, Srna has found.

Among the diplomats who were unable to get into the VIP section at the stadium were Russia’s Petr Ivantsov and Slovenia’s Zorica Bukinac, as well as Head of the Delegation of the European Union to BiH, Ambassador Lars-Gunnar Wigemark.

EYOF officials told SRNA they had heard of the omission, but said they had nothing to do with it because the city of Sarajevo and agency outsourced by the local authorities took on the organisation of the sporting event opening ceremony.

"EYOF 2019 has nothing to do with the problems that occurred as we were not the primary organisers of the opening ceremony,” said the event spokeswoman Jovana Beribaka.

Srna contacted the press service of the City of Sarajevo but has not received any replies yet.

EYOF, which kicked off on Sunday evening, is the biggest Olympic event for young athletes aged 14-18 which is held every two years as a summer and winter festival, and this year’s hosts are the cities Istocno Sarajevo and Sarajevo.

Young athletes from 46 European countries, more than 1,500 of them will compete in eight sports - alpine skiing, biathlon, Nordic skiing, snowboarding, figure skating, speed skating, hockey and curling. /end/ds
