BOOK "BATTLE FOR SREBRENICA - WAR FOR CIVILISATION" PRESENTED

SREBRENICA, March 15 /SRNA/ - Friday in Srebrenica saw a presentation of a Dusan Pavlovic book “Bitka za Srebrenicu - rat za civilizaciju" /Battle for Srebrenica - War for Civilisation/, which is a result of the author’s long-term search for the missing in Bosnia and Herzegovina and his research of Bosniak-Muslim document collections.

The reviewer, a Banjaluka University professor Goran Latinovic, says the book is an answer to the Western narrative and a negation of historical existence of Serbs west of the Drina and a one-sided portrayal of history and 1990s wars after the disintegration of Yugoslavia.

According to Latinovic, the book speaks to a small extent about unpunished crimes of the killing of 2,000 Serbs at the beginning and during the war in Srebrenica, Bratunac and Zvornik, which, he says, was a continuation of WWII Ustasha crimes.

It is his opinion that the battle for Srebrenica was also a battle for the defence of Bratunac and Zvornik from the Muslim 28th Division which constantly carried out acts of sabotage from Srebrenica, which was a UN protection zone and never was demilitarised.

As for the fall of Srebrenica in July 1995 and the crimes committed then, Latinovic says leadership of Republika Srpska had never ordered any killings, that Western powers played a special role in those events and later portrayed them in line with their interests.

The scenario for sacrificing Srebrenica was prepared by the Muslim leadership in Sarajevo, he said, which was proved by numerous Bosniak-Muslim documents on the grounds of which the book was largely made.

He claims the book demystifies numerous untruths and insinuations, a one-sided historical image and narrative about those events which Western powers, as well as Zagreb and Sarajevo historians imposed with untrue statements about the extent and manner of killing of Srebrenica Bosniaks in July 1995.

The author spent many years studying the killings of all peoples in BiH, especially of Serbs, whose killings were described around the world with semi-truths.

Pavlovic points out the book was created on the basis of his long-term search and exhumation of the missing and on studying documents, for the most part Bosniak, and for some part the Army of Republika Srpska and UNPROFOR’s, which was deployed in Srebrenica as an international military factor.

The majority of Bosniaks killed in Srebrenica in July 1995 died in battle, said Pavlovic, but they were all listed as missing one month later in Tuzla and that is the data presented today because the list has been turned into a list of victims of war crimes buried in Potocari.

All those missing people get to be buried in Potocari as veterans and have shahid tombstones above their graves, which means they are soldiers and that the Memorial Centre in Potocari is a military cemetery, submits Pavlovic.

He says that according to Bosniak documents, between 4,500 and0 5,500 Muslim fighters or more than two thirds of the full strength were killed in the breakthrough.

"Some groups of Muslim fighters were taken prisoner. Even though no one from the Republika Srpska leadership had ever ordered prisoners to be killed, that did happen and that is a crime, while the evacuation of around 25,000 Bosniak women and children by the Army of Republika Srpska is a bright example of a military treatment of civilians and prisoners,” says Pavlovic.

Certain individuals decided to execute several large groups of prisoners without any orders and never had the courage to say they did it or for whose benefit they did it, thus disgracing the entire Serb people and army, he said.

Pavlovic notes that the least number of casualties were at the head of the convoy which had security and was made up of the political and military top of the Srebrenica enclave at the time.

Some commanders who were killed at Baljkovica during a breakthrough of the Serb frontline were relocated and buried in the Federation of BiH and later on exhumed and buried in Potocari, which indicates manipulation as to the manner of killing of the Muslim military convoy in July 1995.

The book promotion was organised by the Republika Srpska Centre for Research of War, War Crimes and Search for Missing Persons, Veterans Association and Organisation of Families of Captured and Fallen Veterans and Missing Civilians of Srebrenica. /end/ds
