DODIK: RESTORE NOTRE DAME AS HILANDAR WAS RESTORED

SARAJEVO, April 16 /SRNA/ - BiH Presidency Chairman Milorad Dodik sent deepest regret note to French President Emmanuel Macron and the French people over the tragedy that stroke the Notre Dame Cathedral and voiced hope that the masterpiece of Gothic art will be restored, as it was done after the pearl of the Serbian spirituality, the Hilandar Monastery, had been devastated by fire on the Holy Mountain.

"This masterpiece of Gothic art is one of the most important symbols of European culture and represents a first-class value, not only for the French people, but for all of us who care about the Christian heritage, which is the foundation of our identity," said Dodik, a Serb member of the BiH Presidency.

Dodik reminded that the Serb people faced terrible destruction of their sacred places many times in their history, when many Orthodox churches and monasteries in Kosovo and Metohija were devastated during the pogrom, as well as when the pearl of Serbian spirituality, the monastery Hilandar on the Holy Mountain, was devastated by fire, the Presidency of BiH announced.

"The Hilandar Monastery, like the magnificent Notre Dame Cathedral, being built hundreds of years, from the 12th to the 14th century, was swallowed by a fire in one single day. Yet, the Hilandar Monastery has been largely restored thanks to the great efforts of the entire Serbian people and its friends", Dodik said.

He voiced hope the same would soon happen with a magnificent Parisian cathedral dedicated to the Virgin Mary.

"Our mutual European home, unique and grounded on Christian values, both in the past and in the future, must be marked by monumental symbols, such as Notre Dame and Hilandar. As long as they exist, we exist too," Dodik said.

A fire in the famous cathedral broke out at about 19.00 hrs Monday evening. It is believed that the renovation works caused the fire, which made the tower collapse. /end/vos
