DODIK: PLANNED CELEBRATION IN DRVAR UNNECESSARY PROVOCATION

BANJALUKA, August 14 /SRNA/ - Serb member of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Presidency Milorad Dodik told Srna on Wednesday that he considers an intention by the Livno Canton’s Croatian Democratic Union /HDZ/ to celebrate an alleged liberation of Drvar on September 13 unacceptable and an absolutely unnecessary provocation that can only harm inter-ethnic relations in the canton as well as in the whole BiH.

"It is important to recall that in the 1990s war, an operation of ethnic cleansing of the area was carried out by the regular Croatian army together with the local units, who invested efforts in expelling Serbs from their centuries’ old homes. It would be decent, to say the least, to finally leave the remaining people there, and those have for centuries been Serbs, to live there in peace, where they always wanted to live,” underlined Dodik.

Discussing intentions of the Una-Sana Canton Government to relocate a migration centre into the Serb village of Medeno Polje, Dodik pointed out he perceived it as the finalisation of the ethnic cleansing of Serbs there.

He vowed to confront that with all political and legal instruments and expressed his full support to announced activities of the Serb community in the four municipalities in the Federation of BiH.

"I believe that even without the activities announced by the government there, they do not have nor have they had the fundamental rights which, for example, Republika Srpska guarantees to Bosniaks or Croats. I promise to be there with them on that day in order to prove it is inadmissible to have the people who have always lived there to move out from there because of someone’s idea or plan, and settle the people from the outside, and I declare that we will confront that,” stated Dodik.

The Committee for the Protection of Serbs’ Rights in the FBiH called on all residents of Drvar, Grahovo, Glamoč and Petrovac to block traffic in the direction of Livno and Bihać on September 13 and 14 in protest to the Livno Canton HDZ to celebrate the so-called day of the occupation of Drvar and the intention of the Una-Sana Canton Government to relocate the migration centre into the Serb village of Medeno Polje. /end/dš
