SREBRENICA, July 11 / SRNA / - A commemoration for Bosniaks killed 24 years ago ended on Thursday in Potočari near Srebrenica.


After addresses by officials, the paying of respects to the victims and the laying of flowers in the Memorial Center, a religious ceremony was held and mortal remains of 33 identified Bosniaks were buried.

In comparison to previous years, much less foreign delegations and officials attended this years’ commemoration, especially from the West and attendees were mostly low-ranking members of the diplomatic corps in BiH.

The commemoration ceremony was, among others, attended by High Representative
to BiH Valentin Inzko, EU Special Representative to BiH Lars-Gunnar Wigemark, President of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals Carmel Agius, US Ambassador to BiH Eric Nelson, Turkish Ambassador to BiH Haldun Koc and Speaker of the North Macedonia Assembly Talat Xhaferi.

Members of the BiH Presidency Željko Komšić and Šefik Džaferović, delegations of Turkey and Arab countries, representatives of international organizations in BiH and officials from the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina attended the ceremony. LDP leader Čedomir Jovanović laid flowers.

High Representative to BiH Valentin Inzko told journalists that he came to Potočari to honor the victims and that the oldest human right is the right to a dignified funeral.

Wigemark stated that it is necessary to continue to search for the missing people, which is activity financed by the EU and that we should further continue to work on creating conditions for the exhumation and dignified burial of all missing persons.

Besides three television companies that broadcasted live commemoration, other journalists had no access to the commemorative hall in which the officials have addressed.

Today's gathering in Potočari passed peacefully and was secured by the Republika Srpska Police and other BiH security agencies. /end/dš
