GRATITUDE TO CUSTOMS OFFICIALS AND POLICE OFFICERS FOR WORKING UNDER INHUMAN CONDITIONS FOR 20 YEARS

BILEĆA, OCTOBER 20 /SRNA/ - Chairman of the Council of Ministers Zoran Tegeltija has said that the opening of the "Vraćenovići" border crossing today is one in a series of projects that have been successfully implemented jointly by BiH, Montenegro and the EU.

In his address before a solemn opening of the border crossing on the Nikšić-Bileća road, which is an investment worth more than EUR 2.5 million, Tegeltija expressed the conviction that this is not the last joint project and that larger projects will be successfully implemented in the years to come.

“I want to address police officers and customs officials of Montenegro and BiH who have been enabling the unhindered flow of people and goods in these parts for more than 20 years, as they are the ones who enabled our economies to cooperate and our citizens to communicate. You have worked under inhuman and poor conditions in the past 20 years, but this did not prevent you from successfully doing your job,” Tegeltija said.

He has stressed that police officers and customs officials consider this project as a kind of gratitude for their work in previous years.

“On that behalf, thank you for enabling the unhindered flow of goods and people between Montenegro and BiH. You work at different border crossings, but we can promise you that we will make an effort in the next few years so that other border crossings between BiH and Montenegro be the way we deserve in the 21st century,” said Tegeltija.

He has stressed that enabling better economic cooperation remains an obligation of the governments of both countries and that this requires infrastructure and border crossings that will enable unhindered and quick crossing for people of goodwill and businessmen who want to be successful in their businesses, but which will be an obstacle to the illegal trafficking in human beings and goods.

“BiH is committed to improving infrastructure towards Montenegro and we will build roads that are very expensive from the point of view of our projects, but we will build a road from Foča to Šćepan Polje, including a bridge that is a joint borderline, as part of an EU project. I promise from this place that we will start it next year, in 2021,” said the Chairman of the Council of Ministers.

He expressed the hope that all border crossings will be upgraded and open by 2024.

The joint border crossing “Vraćenovići” was built in the territory of Montenegro through the integration of two border crossings into a joint one, where border services of BiH and Montenegro work together, by which the crossing of the border between the two countries has been simplified.

This contemporary border crossing has three entry and three exit lines, and a line for trucks. It is located in an area of 9,000 sq meters.

The construction of the joint border crossing "Vraćenovići" began at the end of February since when it has been closed due to the construction of road infrastructure. /end/sg
