SERB RETURNS TO GUBIN VILLAGE WITHOUT WATER

LIVNO, SEPTEMBER 2 /SRNA/ - A small number of Serb returnees to the Serb village of Gubin outside Livno have been living without water for decades, while the bad macadam road makes their life as returnees even more difficult.

Obrad Vukovljak from the Ognjište Association from Gubin has told SRNA that there are approximately thirty returnees living in this village nowadays, mostly the elderly. Vukovljak says the residents of this village buy water from cisterns in Livno, because when it's a dry year, like this one, there is no rain to fill the wells. He has emphasized that water is necessary for the small number of Serb returnees who live in this village, as well as a good road, since the nearest store and doctor are about 50 kilometers away from the village, in Livno. "Dust and potholes are our everyday life. It creates additional problems for us because cars are being damaged and it is difficult to get to the destination," said Vukovljak. He reminded that the Livno city authorities do not take enough care of this village’s residents, which is obvious. "We appeal to the authorities in Livno, the Federation of BiH /FBiH/ and Republika Srpska to help us, to build a road and provide us with water. It is tragic that in the 21st century people live virtually cut off from the world," said Vukovljak. In this village in the heart of Dinara, although a small number of Serb returnees keep surviving despite numerous problems, one of which is a poor mobile phone signal.
