PREMIERE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM ABOUT WAR HERO GORAN SARIĆ
BIJELJINA, NOVEMBER 14 /SRNA/ – The documentary film "Commander Sara – the Srpska Police’s Youngest General", which follows the wartime path of the commander of the Special Police Brigade of the Republika Srpska Interior Ministry, Goran Sarić, premiered this evening in Bijeljina.
Author Ljubiša Milutinović told the press the film is 52 minutes long and uses footage he personally recorded during battles, as well as material provided by the Sarić family and RTRS recordings. The wartime commander of the Fourth Detachment of the Special Police, Ratomir Draganić, said before the premiere that General Sarić was a living hero, a brave and honorable officer, a comrade and brother, courageous both in war and in peace. He also recalled that in peacetime General Sarić had been prosecuted twice by the BiH Prosecutor’s Office, but his innocence was proven in court. General Sarić has been decorated with the Karađorđe’s Star Third Class and the Order of Nemanjić. The film about this hero was made at the initiative of veteran special forces members from the Šekovići detachment. General Sarić attended the premiere held at the Semberija Cultural Centre and the large number of heroes from the previous Defensive–Patriotic War who came to pay him respect were addressed by his son, Vladimir Sarić. Goran Sarić, retired police major general, is one of the key figures of the security system of Republika Srpska during the war years. He was born on September 18, 1964, at Boračko Lake near Konjic. He completed primary school in Konjic, secondary school at the Internal Affairs School in Sarajevo, and later graduated from the Army Ground Forces Military Academy in Belgrade and Sarajevo in 1987. As commander of the Special Police Brigade, he led a unit that operated on almost all battlefronts in Republika Srpska. Under his command, the brigade was awarded the Order of Nemanjić, one of the highest military decorations. He retired on April 1, 2000. Tomorrow in Bijeljina, former members of the Special Police Brigade, together with Special Police Units, will hold a ceremonial line up marking the Day of the Establishment of the Special Brigade and the Patron Saint’s Day of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, accompanied by a cultural–artistic programme. This event will take place at the central square at 11:00.
