ŠEHOVAC: DESECRATION OF MEMORIAL PLAQUE IS MESSAGE OF HATE TOWARDS SERBS

EAST SARAJEVO, APRIL 28 /SRNA/ – The latest desecration of the memorial plaque at Vrace in East Novo Sarajevo is yet another message of hate and intolerance towards the Serb people, and a proof that peaceful coexistence is impossible, stated Goran Šehovac, coordinator of veterans' organizations in the Sarajevo-Romanija region, in an interview with SRNA.
Šehovac told SRNA that this is evidence of the lack of culture in present-day Sarajevo. "How many Bosniak memorials are there in Republika Srpska, and nobody touches them or desecrates them. I believe that there is a lack of culture in Sarajevo... This is proof that we can never live together," Šehovac stated. He pointed out that the memorial plaque was cleaned in record time, just like every time before, so the perpetrators gain no real satisfaction, except for raising tensions, which are never lacking in BiH. "Let them continue doing their job, promoting unculture and hatred towards the Serb people, and we will clean it again and initiate lawsuits against them," Šehovac said. An unknown perpetrator poured greasy green paint, once again desecrating the memorial plaque at Vrace, which honors General Ratko Mladić and stands as a testament to the self-organization of the Serbs in the most difficult times, with the desire to preserve their centuries-old hearths. The memorial plaque on the wall of the Vrace Memorial Park has been desecrated multiple times, most recently on August 29, 2023. The Court of General Jurisdiction in Sokolac declared Elvis Gurda and Esad Jašarević guilty in February last year for damaging the memorial plaque at Vrace and ruled that they must pay BAM 6,000, of which BAM 5,000 will go to the Veterans' Organization of East Novo Sarajevo. The Veterans' Organization of East Novo Sarajevo placed the plaque on the wall of the Vrace Memorial Park in 2014, on the part that belongs to Republika Srpska.
