CVIJANOVIĆ: MASSACRE IN DOBROVOLJAČKA – IMPLEMENTATION OF IZETBEGOVIĆ'S STATEMENT THAT HE WOULD SACRIFICE PEACE FOR A "SOVEREIGN BiH"

EAST SARAJEVO, MAY 2 /SRNA/ - The massacre of innocent young members of the JNA in Dobrovoljačka Street in Sarajevo was the implementation of Alija Izetbegović’s statement that he would sacrifice peace for a "sovereign BiH," said the Serbian member and Chairwoman of the BiH Presidency, Željka Cvijanović.
"This terrorist act was the prelude to a tragic conflict based on Izetbegović’s conviction from the 'Islamic Declaration,' according to which, I quote, 'there can be no peace between the Islamic faith and non-Islamic social and political institutions,'" Cvijanović emphasized in a statement to SRNA on the occasion of the 33rd anniversary of the brutal crime against JNA soldiers in Dobrovoljačka Street in Sarajevo. She reminded that no one has yet been held accountable for the crime in Dobrovoljačka, just as for the majority of crimes committed against the Serbian people, which, she said, reflects the anti-Serb character of the BiH judiciary. "When it comes to prosecuting Serbs, trials are conducted and verdicts delivered according to the strictest rules and in the shortest possible procedures - whether it concerns trials for war crimes or the ongoing political-judicial persecutions of Republika Srpska officials," she said. "On the other hand, trials of Bosniaks for crimes against Serbs are endlessly delayed, as in the case of Dobrovoljačka or the trial of Atif Dudaković, or they result in disgraceful acquittals, as in the case of Naser Orić," Cvijanović emphasized. She pointed out that, over the past two decades, the BiH judiciary has done everything to make Serbs grow resentful of the state. By meting out selective justice, which, in fact, is injustice, it has permanently eroded trust among the constituent peoples and thereby undermined the very foundations of what was supposed to be a shared state for all, not just one people.
