VIŠKOVIĆ: SERBIAN PEOPLE WILL INDEPENDENTLY DECIDE ABOUT THEMSELVES

VIŠEGRAD, JUNE 7 /SRNA/ - Republika Srpska Prime Minister Radovan Višković stated today in Višegrad that this town is one of the bridges connecting Srpska and Serbia, and that the Serbian people on both sides of the Drina River will independently decide who will lead them and make decisions, as their harsh history has taught them.

He pointed out that today the fate of the Serbian people in both Serbia and Srpska is identical, because on both sides of the Drina, some call for the removal of presidents elected by the will of the people. "Why should they step down? To make it easier to demonize our people," Višković said during his speech at the event ‘Encounter on the Drina – Bridges of Serbian Unity,’ jointly organized by the governments of Srpska and Serbia. He called on the Serbian people to remain united, harmonious, and to support those who work in their interest. “Let us stay united, cohesive, and give support to those who defend, regardless of the cost to their lives and comfort, Republika Srpska, Serbia, and our people. We must endure; our destiny is in our hands!” Višković said. He said that in the past, not many bridges were built over the Drina River, intentionally limiting the connection between Serbian territories and the people living on both sides of this river. “Thanks to the presidents of Srpska and Serbia, Milorad Dodik and Aleksandar Vučić, in the past few years we have built more bridges connecting our people than in hundreds of years before,” Višković said. He added that a year after the All-Serbian Assembly, they are demonstrating that they are implementing everything that was agreed upon. The Prime Minister of Srpska stated that the events of the past should serve as a lesson to the Serbian people. He recalled the tragic history of World War II, when many Serbs near Višegrad suffered at the hands of those who still today want to dictate to Serbs what they should do. “That was one of the greatest tragedies of our people, which was hidden for almost 30 years, all because of the infamous ‘brotherhood and unity.’ Even today, as back then, freedom and unity were not meant for the Serbs, but rather for us to be subservient and work for the interests of others,” Višković said. He reiterated that only the Serbian people can decide about the fate and leadership of the Serbs, not political Sarajevo or Christian Schmidt. “Long live Republika Srpska, long live Serbia, and our Serbian people wherever they may be!” Višković said. The event was also attended by the President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, and the Prime Minister of Serbia, Đuro Macut.
