DRLJAČA: THE TRGOVSKA GORA ISSUE MUST BE RESOLVED AT THE INTERNATIONAL LEVEL

NOVI GRAD, DECEMBER 15 /SRNA/ - Novi Grad Mayor Miroslav Drljača assessed that today's adoption of the Law on the Construction of a Radioactive Waste Management Center in the Croatian Parliament is yet another slap from Croatia regarding the Trgovska Gora issue, stressing that the problem will have to be resolved at the international level.

Drljača told SRNA that, so far, representatives from BiH have made efforts to explain why the selected location for the radioactive waste storage facility is inadequate and how dangerous it is for municipalities in the Una River basin. "On the other hand, throughout all this time they have not involved us either in their plans or in the research results. We do not know what their next step is," Drljača said. He believes that attempts at further explanations should be set aside, as Croatia is well aware of how the location was selected and what was bypassed in order to implement these plans. "It is high time that we focus on resolving the issue at the international level, before the Espoo Convention Implementation Committee or through court proceedings. This is a problem that will have to be addressed internationally," Drljača concluded.
