At an extraordinary telephone session, the Council of Ministers adopted the information submitted by the Ministry of Civil Affairs regarding the proposal for BiH’s participation in the Venice Biennales of Contemporary Art and Architecture for the 2026–2031 period. The proposal of the Ministry of Education and Culture of Republika Srpska for BiH to be represented at the 61st Venice Biennale of Contemporary Art next year by the project Domus Diasporica was accepted, the Council of Ministers announced. The Ministry of Civil Affairs is required, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to submit a letter of interest to the Biennale Directorate for BiH's participation in the 61st Venice Biennale next year. The statement notes that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is tasked with providing support to activities related to the successful realization of BiH's presentation at the Venice Biennale. Based on the decision on the use of funds for BiH's participation in the Venice Biennale in 2026, the Ministry of Civil Affairs is obliged to conclude a contract with the Museum of Contemporary Art of Republika Srpska as the final beneficiary of the Grant for non-profit organizations for participation in the 2026 Venice Biennale of Contemporary Art. In this way, the Ministry of Civil Affairs will secure BAM 250,000 for the realization of the BiH Pavilion at the 61st Venice Biennale. The Ministry of Education and Culture of Republika Srpska is obliged to provide an additional BAM 200,000. The adopted information on the proposal for BiH's participation in the Venice Biennales of Contemporary Art and Architecture for the 2026–2031 period defines the schedule of representation at one of the oldest and most significant festivals on the contemporary art scene. Accordingly, the Ministry of Education and Culture of Republika Srpska, through the Ministry of Civil Affairs, will propose BiH's representative at the Venice Biennale of Contemporary Art in 2026 and 2029, while the Federal Ministry of Culture and Sports will propose representatives for 2027, 2028, 2030, and 2031, the statement said. In the event that one of the representatives is unable to participate according to this schedule, the order of representation may be adjusted with the consent of the competent entity ministries, while maintaining these principles.
