FOČA, JANUARY 6 /SRNA/ – The advancing flood wave of the Drina River toward Bratunac and Zvornik currently represents the greatest threat of potential flooding, Boris Trninić, Acting Director of the Republic Civil Protection Administration, has stated for SRNA.

Trninić stressed that it is therefore necessary to warn the population in these areas. He said the Drina's water level in the Bratunac area is expected to reach around 710 centimeters, which will most likely result in the flooding of weekend cottage settlements. "Today is Christams Eve Day, and a larger number of people are likely staying in weekend houses to mark the holiday, which is why we have issued warnings and remain in constant contact with local civil protection headquarters. We will continue to monitor the situation," Trninić said. He noted that Civil Protection has received reports that the Drina River, as well as its tributaries in the Foča municipality, are on the rise, and that they have been in contact since yesterday with Foča Mayor Milan Vukadinović. "If necessary, the local Emergency Situations Headquarters will declare a state of emergency," Trninić stressed. According to current information, three to four houses are at risk, but there has been no major river overflow so far. Trninić explained that isolated cases of groundwater are appearing in basements or water is spilling from clogged drainage channels, but that there are currently no alarming situations or major flooding in residential areas. He reminded that the Zalomka River near Nevesinje overflowed its banks yesterday, causing traffic to be suspended, but the water has since receded and traffic has been restored.
