VUČIĆ: REPUBLIKA SRPSKA STANDS AS SYMBOL OF PRIDE AND RESILIENCE
BELGRADE, JANUARY 9 /SRNA/ – Republika Srpska was born in fire, built in difficult times, challenged and denied, but forever proud, unbreakable, and dignified, the President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić said in a congratulatory message on January 9.
Stressing that Serbia will always stand by Republika Srpska and its people, Vučić congratulated all citizens on 34 years of existence and struggle to preserve the Serb name, faith, tradition, customs, and identity. He underlined that Republika Srpska was created for peace and therefore remains one of the firmest bastions of stability in the region. "This is also a day when we celebrate the unity that connects us through history, culture, and the values we share. Our bonds are unbreakable, strong, and eternal, just like the Serb people, wherever they live," Vučić emphasized in a post on Instagram. Vučić pointed out that today sends another message of peace and sincere commitment to cooperation, development, and respect for diversity-a message that unity is the thread strengthening the Serb people in realizing a vision of a future that has a place for everyone. According to him, Serbia will always be there for Republika Srpska and its people because, now more than ever, consistency in pursuing peace, wisdom to guide the right path, responsibility in decision-making, and seriousness in facing challenges are needed. "This is precisely the pledge to future generations, who will continue to build Srpska and Serbia. Long live Republika Srpska! Long live Serbia!" Vučić said. January 9 is celebrated as Republika Srpska Day because Republika Srpska was established on that date in 1992 under its original name, the Republic of the Serb People in BiH. Republika Srpska was founded by Serb deputies in the then Assembly of BiH after they were outvoted on key issues concerning the survival of Yugoslavia, while representatives of the other two peoples moved toward secession against the will of the Serbs, who held the status of a constituent people. The name Republic of the Serb People in BiH was used until February 28, 1992, and the proclamation of the first Constitution, when it was replaced by the Serb Republic of BiH, which remained in use until August 12, 1992, when the name Serb Republic was introduced. That name was replaced in September 1992 with the current one - Republika Srpska.
