ISTOČNO SARAJEVO, JANUARY 23 /SRNA/ - The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations within the Council of Ministers has actively initiated the procedure for adopting a decision on the establishment of the Brod Free Zone, after this local community fulfilled all formal requirements, said the competent Minister Staša Košarac.

Košarac expects that all relevant institutions will deliver the necessary opinions in record time, after which the Ministry will submit the decision to the Council of Ministers for adoption. "We want to provide maximum support to Brod Mayor Milan Zečević and to the efforts of the Government of the Republika Srpska to ensure the economic development of this local community and make it an attractive destination for investment," Košarac wrote on Instagram. He stressed that the establishment of the free zone in Brod represents a major step forward and opens a new chapter of economic development not only for this local community, but also for the Republika Srpska and the wider region. Košarac noted that Brod's geographical position, in the immediate vicinity of the EU border, represents a key comparative advantage. He pointed out that the free zone, covering a total area of 84.04 hectares, will operate across three territorially separate sections, ensuring flexibility and diversity in economic activities. "The establishment of the free zone creates favorable conditions for attracting investors, opening new jobs, and strengthening the competitiveness of the local economy. This project represents a strategic step toward long-term development and positioning Brod as an important economic hub in the region," Košarac emphasized.
