NEW ONCOLOGY AND HEMATOLOGY FACILITY OF THE UKC OPENED
BANJA LUKA, FEBRUARY 13 /SRNA/ - A newly built oncology and hematology facility with palliative care at the University Clinical Centre of Republika Srpska was officially opened today in Banja Luka in the presence of the highest officials of Republika Srpska.
Prior to the opening ceremony, the consecration of the new facility was performed by His Grace Bishop Sava of Marča, who also serves as auxiliary bishop to Metropolitan Jefrem. Bishop Sava conveyed greetings and congratulations from Metropolitan Jefrem and presented an icon of the Most Holy Mother of God, with a prayer that her protection be with everyone who will stay and work there. The ceremony, organized as part of the celebration of Sretenje - Statehood Day of Serbia and Statehood Day of Republika Srpska - was attended by Acting President of Republika Srpska Ana Trišić-Babić, President of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska Nenad Stevandić, Prime Minister Savo Minić, SNSD President Milorad Dodik, and Minister of Health and Social Welfare Alen Šeranić. Also present were Acting Director of the UKC Nikola Šobot, representatives of the Provincial Government, members of parliament, representatives of Republika Srpska in joint institutions, and clergy of the Banja Luka Eparchy. The project for constructing the new facility was financed from the Republika Srpska budget in an amount exceeding BAM 60 million. Construction began on June 29, 2022, and was completed on December 1, 2025. The building consists of a basement, ground floor, and four upper floors, with a total gross area of 11,474 square meters. The facility contains 360 inpatient beds for the Oncology Clinic, Hematology Clinic, the oncology department of the Pulmonary Diseases Clinic, and Palliative Care, where patients in the terminal stage of illness will be accommodated. In addition, the building includes 60 beds/recliners for day-care treatment of patients.
