SELAK: MODERNIZATION OF PRISON SYSTEM A KEY PRIORITY

BANJA LUKA, APRIL 29, 2026 /SRNA/ – Modernization of the prison system is one of the key priorities of the Republika Srpska Ministry of Justice, Minister Goran Selak said during the meeting with representatives of the Council of Europe in Banja Luka.



The central topic of the meeting was the implementation of the Integrated Prison Data Management System, whose development and equipment have been supported by the Council of Europe. The system represents an important step toward the digitalization and modernization of the enforcement of criminal and misdemeanor sanctions. Concrete steps in the final phase of the project were agreed upon during the meeting, with the aim of putting the Integrated System into full operation as soon as possible, the ministry said in a statement. Selak emphasized that the introduction of modern solutions improves efficiency, transparency and the overall functioning of correctional institutions in Republika Srpska. The minister held talks with the Head of the Division for Cooperation in Police and Deprivation of Liberty Issues, Tanja Rakušić Hadžić and the project manager for BiH, Marica Bender, on projects related to correctional institutions in Republika Srpska aimed at improving their operations.
