VUKELIĆ: TRAFFIC SAFETY UNDER PRESSURE AS ACCIDENTS INCREASE DUE TO SPEEDING AND DRUNK DRIVING

BANJA LUKA, MAY 8 /SRNA/ – The head of the Banja Luka Police Administration Đurica Vukelić told SRNA that in the first three months of this year there were 20 percent more traffic accidents compared to the same period last year, warning that the most common causes of the most serious crashes are inappropriate speed and alcohol.

"Traffic accidents involving material damage and, unfortunately, fatalities stand out in particular. In the first three months, we had five people killed in traffic accidents. That is a worrying fact," Vukelić said in a SRNA podcast. According to him, the police are carrying out numerous preventive campaigns, as well as repressive measures aimed at improving traffic safety. Vukelić also stated that the overall security situation in the city of Banja Luka is good, emphasizing that there are no organized criminal groups. "The statistics are good when it comes to security. From month to month, from year to year, we have fewer criminal offenses. There is also a lower number of public order disturbances," Vukelić stated. He added that this is the result of the continuous work of the police and their presence in the field. "In Banja Luka there are no organized criminal groups dealing, for example, with vehicle theft, as was the case in the past. There are no organized criminal groups involved in robberies or bank thefts. We do not have organized criminal groups carrying out burglaries in houses and apartments," Vukelić said. The new episode of the SRNA podcast, featuring the head of the Banja Luka Police Administration Đurica Vukelić, will be available tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. to users of the service, as well as on social networks and the YouTube channel.
