AMIDŽIĆ: IT WILL BE SEEN TODAY WHETHER POLITICAL CONFRONTATION IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN COMMON SENSE

SARAJEVO, MAY 19 /SRNA/ - Chairman of the Management Board of the Indirect Taxation Authority of BiH Srđan Amidžić said that the Management Board will today attempt for the sixth time to adopt a decision on opening the new border crossing in Gradiška, stating that it is unacceptable for citizens and the economy to suffer due to political confrontations.

"If queues are not a problem, then maybe it is not a problem if someone, God forbid, loses their life. Just let politics be pursued," Amidžić posted on X. He stressed that today’s session will show whether, for some members of the ITA Management Board, political confrontations are more important than common sense and a normal life. "We hope that reason will finally prevail this time," Amidžić said. Amidžić scheduled a telephone session of the ITA Management Board for today at 13:00. A partial collapse of the concrete structure and railing occurred overnight on the bridge over the Sava River in Gradiška, resulting in a complete suspension of cross-border traffic for all vehicles and pedestrians. The newly built border crossing and bridge, connecting BiH with the EU /Croatia/ on the country's most important transport route, worth 100 million Euros, have been ready for use since December last year, but a member of the ITA Management Board from the FBiH, Zijad Krnjić, has repeatedly prevented their opening for exclusively political reasons. Krnjić’s blockade has caused significant economic losses for Republika Srpska and BiH, as passenger and freight traffic has been forced to use the already overburdened old border crossing. Krnjić has already refused to give consent five times for amendments to internal acts necessary for opening the new border crossing in Gradiška.
