STANKOVIĆ: THE INCIDENT IN SUBOTICA IS AN ISOLATED CASE OF VIOLENCE

BELGRADE, MAY 31 /SRNA/ - The Minister of Education of Serbia, Dejan Vuk Stanković, said that the incident at the high school graduates' send-off in Subotica represents an isolated case of reckless violence that will be investigated and which cannot disrupt the historically best relations between Serbia and Hungary, and between Serbs and Hungarians.

Stanković emphasized that the education system of Serbia has always been open to differences and sensitive to the cultural and educational rights of all members of minority communities, stated the Ministry of Education of Serbia. The Minister condemned the act of national hatred, the raising of inter-ethnic tensions, and the disruption of tolerance, multiculturalism, and mutual respect between Serbs and Hungarians in a multi-ethnic, peaceful environment. "No form of violence or discrimination based on ethnicity will be tolerated," Stanković stated. At the graduation send-off in front of the "Ivan Sarić" Technical School in Subotica, two minors snatched a Hungarian flag from a student who was wearing it on his back; the flag was later found discarded in the city center.
