BRITISH SEEK TO MAINTAIN FALSE NARRATIVE ABOUT SRPSKA
BELGRADE, JUNE 13 /SRNA/ – Political scientist Aleksandar Pavić stated that the purpose of the British House of Lords’ session on BiH was to maintain in public a false narrative about Republika Srpska and its leadership that has been promoted for more than three decades, even to strengthen it due to concerns over changes in U.S. policy toward BiH and Srpska, which differ from their approach.
Pavić explained that this is a way to sustain their unsustainable construct that Serbs are to blame for everything, that Republika Srpska and Milorad Dodik are the main problem, that BiH should be centralised, that Srpska should disappear, and that Serbs should accept responsibility for a genocide they did not commit. “This is just a constant of British policy toward us,” Pavić told SRNA. He noted that, fortunately, statements made in the House of Lords are not binding for anyone, but rather demonstrate Britain’s determination to continue destructive policy and an overall hostile approach toward the Serb people. Regarding the selection of a future high representative in BiH and apparent differences between British and U.S. positions on the candidate, Pavić said the outcome will reveal much about relations within the Western bloc. “We will see whether there has been a final and permanent rupture or whether they have found a way to maintain at least a semblance of minimum unity, which essentially no longer exists,” he said. He added that the situation cannot return to what it once was, because Republika Srpska will not accept the Office of High Representative continuing to operate as it has, nor will Russia and China accept a High Representative appointed without UN Security Council approval. If the matter is left solely to the Peace Implementation Council, Pavić believes it would be just as illegitimate as Christian Schmidt. “The question is whether he will even be appointed, because the Americans have already said they are not interested in nation-building, especially not artificial ones like BiH, so they will insist on their own candidate and will not give in to the EU, with which the U.S. has increasingly poor relations,” he said. According to him, if the EU accepts the American candidate, it would mean they have backed down and accepted the concept that the high representative can no longer function as a colonial administrator, and that the Office of High Representative should be brought to an end. During the debate in the British House of Lords on the situation in BiH, Republika Srpska was among other things accused of separatism, of strengthening Russian influence, and of undermining the Dayton Peace Agreement, while Belgrade was accused of encouraging such destructive actions.
