MINIĆ: CORRIDOR 92 - OPERATION FOR LIFE AND SURVIVAL

MODRIČA, JUNE 21 /SRNA/ – Republika Srpska Prime Minister Savo Minić said at Duga Njiva that Operation Corridor 92 was a military operation for life and survival of the Serb people, stressing that Serbs should be proud of heroic warriors’ achievement.

Minić called for unity and pride around values sacred for the Serb people and Republika Srpska. “These sacred values are our Serbian Orthodox Church, around which we should gather to pray for the souls of our heroes; our artists to do it through songs; and us who exercise any form of authority, we should honour them through concrete actions and everything that every citizen of Republika Srpska deserves, especially our heroes,” Minić said while addressing a ceremony marking the 34th anniversary of the Corridor Breakthrough, the most significant victory of the Republika Srpska Army, which linked the eastern and western parts of Republika Srpska. Speaking about support for the veteran population, Minić pointed out that the new legal framework regulating the rights of veteran categories in Republika Srpska also includes veterans of the Republika Srpska Krajina Army. “We also take care of our veterans whose veteran allowance is their only possible source of income,” Minić said. He also emphasized the institutional and national significance of constructing the Banja Luka–Belgrade motorway. “That corridor is also part of our corridor. It was something that saved us in the most difficult times. We traveled along it in tears, and I believe we will do everything possible to ensure that in the future people travel that corridor with their heads held high,” Minić stressed. He stated that those who were killing Serbs, throwing them into pits, and expelling them from their ancestral homes now celebrate those events more strongly every year. “We must begin to hold our heads even higher. Operation Corridor was an operation to ensure our survival in these lands. It was not an operation to displace anyone, but to survive,” Minić said. The military operation Corridor 92 was conducted from June 14 to June 28, 1992, in the Posavina region. It was carried out by forces of the First Krajina Corps, the East Bosnian Corps, and the Republika Srpska Krajina police, under the command of General Momir Talić. Also known as the Breakthrough of the Corridor of Life, it was the largest operation undertaken by the Republika Srpska Army during the Defensive-Patriotic War against the Croatian Defence Council /HVO/ and the Croatian Army in Posavina.
