SUPPORT FOR INITIATIVE TO BAN WARTIME FLAG OF SO-CALLED ARMY OF BiH

NOVI GRAD, JUNE 21 /SRNA/ – Symbols that cause pain among the people and offend the victims should be regulated by law, said Marinko Gačić, the head of the Novi Grad War Veterans Organisation, expressing support for an initiative to permanently ban the wartime flag of the so-called Army of BiH in Republika Srpska.

Supporting the initiative put forward by the “Garda Panteri” Veterans Association, Gačić told SRNA that Republika Srpska should have a clear legal framework to protect its citizens, their dignity, and the memory of the suffering they endured. “I support the view that issues of this importance should be resolved through institutions and legislation, rather than through divisions and conflicts,” Gačić said. He added that he supports every initiative aimed at protecting the dignity of the Serb people, their victims, and the values that were established during difficult times. As the historical memory of every people should be respected, Gačić also pointed to the need to respect the suffering of families and communities that have experienced loss. He stated that anything that offends Serb victims should be the subject of a responsible decision by the Republika Srpska institutions. “I believe that all symbols which evoke feelings of pain, injustice, and disrespect toward victims among a people should be the subject of serious institutional review and legal regulation,” Gačić concluded.
