RANILUG, JUNE 28 /SRNA/ – Vidovdan was traditionally marked at the remains of the medieval fortress of Prilepac in the birthplace of Prince Lazar, in the municipality of Ranilug.

A Divine Liturgy was served at the Church of the Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel, after which those gathered climbed to the top of the hill and the ruins of the town of Prilepac. Professor Miloš Ković stressed that Saint Prince Lazar ranks among the greatest Serbs and the most important Serb saints, immediately after Saint Sava and Saint Simeon. Ković said that, unlike peoples such as the Bulgarians or perhaps the Russians, the Serbs were distinguished not by their faith or language, but by these figures who shaped the Serb people and served as examples for the entire Serb people. "The moment we choose heroism over fear, we are following the path of Saint Prince Lazar and we are living according to the Kosovo Covenant," Ković said. He expressed hope that awareness of preserving the sacred and covenantal Serb land would also spread among Serbs who do not live in Kosovo and Metohija. In his sermon, Archpriest Srđan Milenković said that Prince Lazar set out from that place on his mission to become a soldier of Christ. "We too are soldiers of Christ, forming the bastion of this holy land, where we protect our hearts, our villages, our homes and what is most sacred to our people," Archpriest Milenković said. He stressed that people should have more love, faith and hope, and preserve their centuries-old ancestral homes.
