FIRE RAGES FOR THIRD DAY, MINEFIELD BURNING, AROUND 20 HOUSEHOLDS AT RISK

DRVAR, JULY 5 /SRNA/ – A wildfire has been raging for a third consecutive day in the village of Kamenica near Drvar; firefighters and forestry workers are helpless as a minefield is on fire, while around 20 homes located near the fire are under threat, Drvar Mayor Dušica Runić told SRNA.

"We requested assistance from the BiH Armed for an aerial intervention because the fire is burning in a mined area. However, our request was denied on the grounds that they are not permitted to operate over minefields," Runić said. Rain is not forecast until tomorrow, and because low vegetation is burning, the fire is spreading rapidly.
