CVIJANOVIĆ: THOSE WHO BROUGHT FREEDOM THROUGHOUT HISTORY SHOULD NOT BE FORGOTTEN
NEVESINJE, JULY 9 /SRNA/ - Serb member of the BiH Presidency Željka Cvijanović said that schools should teach about important events from national history, such as the Nevesinje Rifle uprising, because new generations must not forget those who brought freedom to the Serbian people.
Cvijanović told reporters that such historical events should be studied to draw lessons from history, but also so that the Serbian people, united around the interests and institutions of Republika Srpska, could build their future in a planned and organised manner. "Of course, I look with respect at the fact that the brave people of Nevesinje and Herzegovina fought for freedom here after centuries of oppression," Cvijanović said, adding that the people of this region had been on the right side of history in the face of every challenge and great evil. Cvijanović said that Republika Srpska today is a place that is loved, built and strengthened. "Republika Srpska is a place where we are united as a community, aware of everything that history has given us, aware of our obligation to preserve our ideals, our tradition and our values, but also aware of the fact and the obligation to strengthen our institutions day by day so that they can fulfil their duties towards their citizens," the Serb member of the BiH Presidency said. She stressed that she was proud of the citizens of Republika Srpska, Herzegovina, and every other part of the Republic. "It is a Republic that has also shed blood, one that achieved its status, its freedom and its rights through a difficult struggle. I am certain that, just like our previous generations, this generation that lives and is being born in Republika Srpska today will also succeed in passing on faith in its existence to some future generations," Cvijanović said. According to her, everything that is being done today is being done not only for the present, but also for the future. "We are working for those who will come after us, so that they can be secure both in terms of their status and economically, so that their goals for the future are clearly defined, and so that they can function as families and that their families can live in safety," Cvijanović stressed. She expressed gratitude to every insurgent, fighter, and person who, throughout history, contributed to the freedom in which everyone lives today.
