TAX EVASION REPORT AGAINST POTOČARI MEMORIAL CENTRE UNDER REVIEW
BIJELJINA, AUGUST 3 /SRNA/ - The Bijeljina District Public Prosecutor's Office has opened a case concerning the operations of the Srebrenica Memorial Centre public institution in 2022 following a report alleging tax and social contribution evasion, the Prosecutor's Office told SRNA.
"Under the supervision of the prosecutor handling the case, measures and investigative actions are being undertaken to verify the information provided and the report, and to determine whether there are grounds for suspicion that the criminal offence of tax and social contribution evasion has been committed," the Prosecutor's Office said. The Prosecutor's Office said that the prosecutor handling the case has requested the collection of documentation, and the undertaking of measures and investigative actions by authorised officials to verify the allegations and gather evidence. "At this stage, no order to open an investigation has been issued. It should also be noted that any individuals who may be summoned for questioning are being interviewed solely as witnesses," the Prosecutor's Office said. They added that, after all relevant documentation and evidence have been collected, the prosecutor will be able to make a final decision. In response to SRNA's inquiry, the Prosecutor's Office said that it and the competent police administrations are acting in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Code of Republika Srpska. They also reminded that upon learning of a possible criminal offence and where grounds for suspicion exist, it is the prosecutor's duty to immediately take the necessary measures to detect the offence and conduct an investigation. The Prosecutor's Office also appealed to the media to inform the public based on the available facts and information, without creating negative public opinion or exerting influence on the work of authorised officials and the Prosecutor's Office. At the end of last week, SRNA reported that members of the Zvornik Police Administration were acting on a report of tax and social contribution evasion at the Potočari Memorial Centre and that 26 people from the Srebrenica municipality were being questioned.
