WASTE MANAGEMENT EQUIPMENT WORTH BAM 100,000 HANDED OVER
TREBINJE, AUGUST 25 /SRNA/ - Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations in the Council of Ministers Staša Košarac today handed over waste management and disposal equipment to Trebinje Mayor Mirko Ćurić, consisting of three underground containers and 20 containers, with a total value of BAM 100,000.
"In the coming period, at the request of the utility company and the Mayor of Trebinje, we would like to provide 10 underground containers, and we will try to do this within a short period in order to strengthen capacity so that waste can be removed from the city streets in a more efficient and modern manner," Košarac said. He added that they would consider the possibility of providing funds for a replacement or new municipal utility vehicle. "We discussed the possibility of securing additional funds through the BiH institutions and the ministry headed by the Ministry of Foreign Trade to rehabilitate the city landfill and, through the project approved in BiH worth USD 14.7 million, secure funding for phased work, so that we can work on a modern waste disposal system in Trebinje," Košarac said. He noted that an existing project in the water protection and water resources sector would be used to provide part of the funding for an early warning system for potential floods in Popovo Polje and Pridvorci, as well as equipment for pumping water and boats. "We discussed the implementation of a USD 5 million project related to the development of ecological agrotourism, because we believe that, alongside Jahorina, Trebinje has the strongest capacity in Republika Srpska to draw a significant share of funds from this fund and project," Košarac said. According to him, it was agreed that the Trebinje Tourism Organisation would be involved so that it could prepare for the Expo 2027 exhibition in Belgrade, and that Republika Srpska’s capacities must be mobilized for this purpose. Košarac said that the Ministry would also support trade fair events in Trebinje, such as the Energy Summit and the Žilavka Wine Salon. Trebinje Mayor Mirko Ćurić thanked Košarac and his associates for the equipment and said that work was underway to replace existing containers, as well as install underground or semi-underground containers. "They have a significantly larger capacity, and it is very important that they are also more aesthetically pleasing. Given that we are a tourist city, this is an opportunity to dispose of much more waste in one place," Ćurić said. He pointed out that one of the goals was to systematically resolve the issue of waste disposal and that joint efforts were crucial to making the city even cleaner. Director of the city utility company Milan Mandrapa told the press that the equipment was very important for the company, that the project was worth around BAM 100,000, and that they would now have around 20 containers with a capacity of five cubic meters each. "The landfill project consists of rehabilitating the existing landfill, establishing a new landfill cell and opening a recycling centre. We will carry this out in phases, and the implementation of this project is part of that phase," Mandrapa said.
