TENNIS PLAYER JELENA JANKOVIĆ TO BE ONE OF EXPO AMBASSADORS
BELGRADE, AUGUST 26 /SRNA/ – Serbia's President Aleksandar Vučić received former world No. 1 tennis player Jelena Janković in Belgrade, who will be one of the promoters and ambassadors of the international Expo 2027, to be held in Belgrade.
At the reception at the Presidency building, Vučić said that Expo is one of the most important events for Serbia and one of the biggest events in the world, adding that he believed Serbia would set a record for the number of participating countries. "For us, Expo means the development of Serbia and investment in different parts of the country," Vučić said. He added that it was of enormous importance for Serbia that former world No. 1 tennis player Jelena Janković would promote her country, Serbia, which will host dozens of European and world leaders. The Serbia's president thanked Janković for her achievements in tennis, including 17 medals, and for representing Serbia with dedication. Vučić said that, due to everything being built and developed in connection with Expo, Belgrade would also take on a different appearance. "I am endlessly grateful to you for protecting, defending and loving your country, Serbia, wherever you are in the world," Vučić said. Janković thanked him for the great honour of becoming an Expo ambassador and for the trust placed in her to be part of this major endeavor, stressing that she was very proud and would do her best to present Serbia to the world with dignity and great love. "Sport and music are universal languages that bring people together," Janković said. She said that throughout her career she had tried to represent Serbia in the best possible way, from the heart and with great pride and love. "For me, the Expo motto `Play for Humanity` means that regardless of our differences, we can be part of something greater than ourselves. Now the world is coming to Serbia to discover a country of world champions, scientists, artists, culture and tradition. We have the finest hospitality and a big heart," she said. During the meeting, Vučić and Janković exchanged gifts: a box featuring Serb motifs from Dušan's Code and a tennis racket.
