LINTA: SLASHING TYRES ON A VEHICLE WITH BELGRADE REGISTRATION PLATES ACT OF HATRED
BELGRADE, OCTOBER 13 /SRNA/ – Miodrag Linta, the Chair t of the Association of Serbs from the Region, said that slashing the tyres of a vehicle with Belgrade registration plates in Sarajevo was an act of hatred.
Linta stressed that the incident further heightened the sense of insecurity among Serbs and pointed to intolerance towards people arriving from Serbia. “What is particularly concerning is the fact that tyres on cars with Serbian registration plates have been slashed on several occasions in Sarajevo in previous years as well,” Linta said at press conference. He believes that it is high time for Bosniak politicians and the media to stop creating an atmosphere in which citizens of Serbia and Serbs are unwelcome in Sarajevo. “No one should be subjected to threats, insults or property damage because of where they come from, their national identity or the registration plates on their vehicle,” Linta emphasised. He added that the competent authorities were obliged to investigate the case urgently, identify the perpetrators and ensure that they were held accountable in accordance with the law. In Sarajevo’s Breka neighbourhood, an unidentified individual slashed two tyres on a car with Belgrade registration plates during the night between Sunday and Monday, 11–12 October. The incident was confirmed to Klix by the vehicle’s owner, a Serbian citizen who has frequently stayed in Sarajevo over the past three years.
