WASTE PILING UP IN STREETS, NO EQUIPMENT AVAILABLE TO TRANSPORT IT OVER LONGER DISTANCES
GORAŽDE, NOVEMBER 4 /SRNA/ – Municipal waste collection has been completely suspended in Goražde after residents blocked the illegal Šišeta landfill; waste is piling up in the streets, while the municipal utility company has warned that it lacks the equipment for transporting waste over longer distances.
Goražde Mayor Ernest Imamović has appealed to higher levels of government to urgently intervene in resolving the problem. Imamović said that the city administration had already sent letters to landfills throughout the FBiH and Republika Srpska to check prices and the possibility of disposing of the waste elsewhere, but that this would also be impossible due to the outdated equipment of the municipal utility company. According to him, they have already received a negative response from Sarajevo. Residents taking turns keeping watch at the illegal Šišeta landfill say they will no longer tolerate the poisoning of residents and are demanding its immediate closure due to the environmental disaster and the threat to public health.
