EXHIBITION ON THE VICTORY OVER FASCISM REMINDS THAT NAZISM AND FASCISM HAVE NOT BEEN ERADICATED

PALE, MAY 15 /SRNA/ – An exhibition marking the 80th anniversary of the victory over fascism was opened today in Pale, serving as a reminder that the specter of Nazism and fascism, defeated in 1945, has never been completely eradicated.

Draga Mastilović, Director of the Institute of Historical Sciences at the University of East Sarajevo, emphasized that the exhibition and the accompanying round table are not only important for the Serbian and Russian peoples but for all of Europe, where since the 1990s—something the Serbs have felt firsthand—neo-Nazism and neo-fascism have reemerged. Following the opening of the exhibition, Mastilović told reporters that the former common state of Yugoslavia was destroyed by this neo-fascism, which reappeared in the form of Ustashism, and that manifestations of neo-Nazism still exist today in the Balkans or post-Yugoslav region. “We are witnessing even today that streets in Sarajevo are named after known Nazi collaborators from World War II, and even schools bear the names of such figures,” Mastilović added. He stated that Nazi symbols are visible in present-day Ukraine, but that such phenomena can also be seen throughout Europe.
