REFERENDUM THE MOST EFFECTIVE WAY TO EXPRESS THE PEOPLE’S WILL

EAST SARAJEVO, August 12 /SRNA/ - Lawyer Milan Petković told SRNA that a referendum is one of the fundamental achievements of a democratic society and the most effective way for the people to express their will.

"A referendum is a hallmark of a democratic society and the best way to manifest the will of the people. Let the people say whether they support Milorad Dodik and his policy or not," stressed Petković, who is also a member of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH. He emphasized that the will of the people stands above all. "No one can fight against the will of the people, nor can anyone defeat it," Petković said. President of Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik announced the holding of a referendum after the BiH Central Election Commission on August 6 adopted a decision to terminate the mandate of the President of Republika Srpska, elected in the 2022 general elections, against which an appeal is permitted. The Appellate Division of the Court of BiH on August 1 upheld the first-instance verdict against President of Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik, sentencing him to one year in prison and imposing a six-year ban on political activity "for failing to comply with the decisions of Christian Schmidt."
