CVIJANOVIĆ: BOLJANIĆ FIELD IMPORTANT PLACE OF COMMON HISTORY OF SERBIAN AND AMERICAN PEOPLE

DOBOJ, SEPTEMBER 21 /SRNA/ - Serb member of the Presidency of BiH Željka Cvijanović pointed out that Boljanić field in Republika Srpska is an important place of common history of the American and the Serbian people, adding that Republika Srpska will always remember the heroes who made the Serbian name famous throughout the free world with their courage and humanity during the Operation Halyard.

"We are proud of the heroes who fought for the freedom of our people, but also of all humanity. With their courage and humanity during Operation Halyard, they brought glory to the Serbian name throughout the free world. Republika Srpska will forever remember their great feat," Cvijanović wrote on the X. She recalled that during Operation Halyard, Serbs rescued American and allied pilots, provided them with clothes, shoes, food and medicine, and then enabled them to return home safely. "A total of 60 American pilots were successfully evacuated from the improvised airport in Boljanić. In the fight against Nazism and fascism, we were together on the right side of history, and we want it to be like that in the future," Cvijanović emphasized. In Boljanić, near Doboj, the event was organized to mark the 81st anniversary of the Operation Haliyard and the rescue of allied pilots by members of the Yugoslav Army in the homeland. A total of 500 allied pilots were saved in the Operation Halyard, and 60 American airmen were evacuated from the improvised airport in Boljanić.
