TRNINIĆ: IT IS IMPORTANT TO SLOW DOWN FLOW OF PIVA TO PREVENT FURTHER RISE OF DRINA

FOČA, JANUARY 6 /SRNA/ – Acting Director of the Republic Administration of Civil Protection Boris Trninić told SRNA that Montenegro has been asked to slow down the flow of the Piva River, which flows into Drina River, a move that is very important at this moment in order to prevent an increase in the water level of Drina, which is currently stagnating.

Trninić noted that a state of emergency has been declared in Zvornik and in part of the municipality of Foča, where flooding has occurred in certain settlements. According to him, weekend settlements and parts of suburban areas in Bratunac and Zvornik have been flooded, but there has been no major material damage. Trninić said that local civil emergency headquarters are informing and warning the population. He emphasized that the Republic Administration of Civil Protection is monitoring the situation and hopes that no major problems will occur. “We cannot relax, as weather forecasts for the next two to three days are not favorable, but teams are on standby and we will continue to monitor the situation,” Trninić said. The Foča Municipal Emergency Headquarters earlier appealed to the authorities at the “Mratinje” Hydropower Plant /HPP/ on the Piva River to urgently shut down the generators in order to eliminate the risk of flooding in the Donje Polje area.
