MINIĆ: MECHANISM'S TREATMENT OF GENERAL MLADIĆ IS PURE CRIME

ŠAMAC, APRIL 25 /SRNA/ - Republika Srpska Prime Minister Savo Minić expressed hope today that reason will prevail regarding the request to grant General Ratko Mladić temporary release, so that the sentence does not become a crime.

ŠAMAC, APRIL 25 /SRNA/ - Republika Srpska Prime Minister Savo Minić expressed hope today that reason will prevail regarding the request to grant General Ratko Mladić temporary release, so that the sentence does not become a crime.

“The detention unit in The Hague has a hospital section that is absolutely inadequate for General Mladić’s medical condition, so this is a pure crime. This goes against all possible moral norms,” Minić told reporters in Obudovac near Šamac. He recalled that General Mladić has suffered several strokes and is in a condition that requires the most serious medical care. “I hope that reason will prevail, at least among those making the decision, those from the medical profession, who have taken certain oaths, so that the sentence does not become a crime,” Minić stressed. The family of General Ratko Mladić and his lawyer, Dragan Ivetić, have submitted a request to the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals in The Hague for his urgent temporary release so he can receive treatment in Serbia, due to his extremely serious health condition. General Mladić suffered a stroke on April 10, and his already serious condition has further deteriorated, as he has serious neurological, cardiovascular, and nephrological problems. He has already spent two full years in the prison hospital, has been bedridden for the past year and a half, and the Mechanism has refused to grant him temporary release for treatment.
