GENERAL MLADIĆ’S HEALTH CONDITION WORSE THAN BEFORE

BELGRADE, MAY 4 /SRNA/ – General Ratko Mladić is in an even worse health condition than before, he is still not being given an IV infusion at the detention hospital in The Hague, his son Darko Mladić, who visited him today, told SRNA.

BELGRADE, MAY 4 /SRNA/ – General Ratko Mladić is in an even worse health condition than before, he is still not being given an IV infusion at the detention hospital in The Hague, his son Darko Mladić, who visited him today, told SRNA.

"He is worse than he was. He can speak even less. He looks bad, cannot say a single word, sometimes only communicates with a facial expressio. In the second hour of the visit, he could no longer communicate even in that way. He is in quite poor condition," Darko Mladić said, adding that he is not being given an IV but is being fed with pureed food. The family has received new medical documentation, which still needs to be sent to Serb doctors in Serbia for analysis, he said. He noted that the documentation refers to Saturday, May 2, when the general was transferred from the detention unit to a civilian hospital in The Hague after there were suspicions he might suffer a stroke. He added that there is still no report from independent doctors, engaged by the Mechanism on the order of Judge Graciela Gatti Santana, to examine General Mladić in connection with the defence’s request for him to be released for medical treatment in Serbia. "They also requested that some additional diagnostic procedures be carried out," Darko Mladić said, adding that he does not know when Judge Santana might make a decision on defence team and the family’s request for General Mladić to be released for medical treatment in Serbia. Darko Mladić says he will remain in The Hague until Wednesday, May 6. Mladić suffered a stroke on April 10, and his health condition has further deteriorated due to serious neurological, cardiovascular, and renal problems. Since 2024, he has been in the detention hospital in The Hague, where he is receiving palliative care. On Saturday, May 2, General Mladić was transferred to a civilian hospital due to stroke symptoms. The International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals in The Hague has repeatedly rejected requests for Mladić to be granted provisional release for medical treatment in Serbia.
