GENERAL MLADIĆ REMAINS IN CRITICAL CONDITION AND AT HIGH RISK OF DEATH

BELGRADE, JULY 15 /SRNA/ - A report by a Serbian neuropsychiatrist following the latest examination of General Ratko Mladić at the Hague detention hospital showed that his condition remains poor and that there is a high probability he could die very soon, his son Darko Mladić said in a statement to SRNA.

"He can no longer speak, and the risk of death is literally imminent. In practical terms, there is a very high probability that this could happen very soon," Darko said. According to him, it is undisputed that the Hague doctors also confirmed this in April. "Essentially, his condition remains unchanged from the last report provided by our doctors and the doctors of the Hague Tribunal. He is still at a very high risk of death," Darko said. He pointed out that the general is not being kept in adequate conditions at the Hague detention hospital because he cannot receive all the care he requires. Darko said that, in addition to all the health problems he has faced, the general also survived two strokes in April and May, which further worsened his ability to communicate. "The fact is that he survived those strokes and that he is now in an even worse condition than he was before April this year. He is now in a much worse state than he was before those strokes," the general's son stated. According to him, it was previously possible to have some kind of conversation with General Mladić, but that he can now barely speak at all, while his medical indicators continue to decline. "It is a miracle that he survived those two strokes, especially given that they failed to diagnose the first stroke and spent almost a month convincing us that he had not even had one. The fact that he survived it is, in itself, already a miracle," Darko Mladić told SRNA. He reminded that it was determined at the beginning of May that Mladić had suffered two strokes, which was also confirmed by reports from Serbian doctors. General Ratko Mladić has suffered multiple strokes while in the Hague, has kidney disease, and has had a heart stent implanted. He has also had high blood pressure and diabetes, but has never received the necessary care from the Hague authorities, nor was he released for treatment. He spent the past two years bedridden at the Hague detention hospital, and following the two strokes in April and May, his already serious condition deteriorated dramatically. Both Hague and Serbian doctors have assessed that General Mladić is in the terminal stage of illness, with a very limited life expectancy.
