BOWES: UNCERTAINTY WILL FOLLOW CELEBRATIONS
DUBLIN, OCTOBER 26 /SRNA/ – Irish journalist and historian Chay Bowes says that Serbia has made its decision in the elections, but that there are still many unknowns about the future, including Serbia’s geostrategic position and what would happen to Republika Srpska and Kosovo and Metohija.
"Does anyone know where the political document is, where the manifesto is? I believe uncertainty will follow very soon after the celebrations," Bowes said. Bowes noted that a change of government had been inevitable, but said the question remained who would lead Serbia and in which direction the country would go. "What is the plan for Serbia? What is the policy? Where are the leaders? Who the people will gather around? I think some people are worried. Based on my conversations in Serbia, I believe the situation is somewhat chaotic," Bowes said in a video published on X. He states that the student movement has been directed against former Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, but there are powerful forces in the West, in the European Union, the United Kingdom, the United States and Germany, that are “on the streets in Serbia”, adding that he knows it as he had been there himself. "Hundreds of non-governmental organisations are pouring money into Serbia. What comes next? What will happen to relations with Russia and to weapons for Ukraine? From what I can see, nobody seems to know," the Irish historian said. Bowes believes that a group of university professors and a popular movement represent “true democracy”, but he also questioned what their plan would be now. "Nobody can say that the Western machine did not want the students to win and that it did not invest a great deal of money on the ground. Will the baby be thrown out with the bathwater when it comes to Serbia?" he asked. Bowes said that this was a moment for celebration and that an overwhelming majority of the population had wanted change, adding that he had witnessed a similar situation in Hungary. He noted that there had been considerable discussion of "corruption" in both Serbia and Hungary, but added that he had not seen concrete evidence of it.
