NO CONSENT FOR INSTALLATION OF MONUMENT TO TVRTKO KOTROMANIĆ IN SARAJEVO

EAST SARAJEVO, AUGUST 29 /SRNA/ - Anđelina Ošap Gaćanović, member of the Commission for the Preservation of National Monuments in BiH, has said that the Commission never gave consent for the installation of a monument to Tvrtko Kotromanić in Sarajevo, and that it should be distinguished whether it glorifies the Bosnian title of Ban or the title of Nemanjić.
Gaćanović told SRNA that she does not know who allowed it, since the Commission issued an opinion that there is no consent for the installation of this monument and that it is not in accordance with the historical urban landscape. "If some consent was obtained, then it was obtained by an incomplete vote because I did not give consent. In that case, the decision is invalid, because in the recent past there was no request for members of the Commission to issue an opinion on compliance with the decision on the protection of the historic urban landscape of Sarajevo," said Gaćanović. Gaćanović emphasized that BiH is a signatory to international conventions on the protection of cultural, natural and intangible heritage, which oblige BiH not to use historical layers and historical intangible heritage in daily political contexts. "We need to separate the historical personality of Stefan Tvrtko Kotromanić the First from the interpretation, because there is no king of Bosnia and the medieval Bosnian kingdom. Tvrtko was the Ban of Bosnia, and then he was crowned with the Nemanjić crown and it is a much larger state," explained Gaćanović. Commenting on the inscription on the monument that reads "King Tvrtko," Gaćanović points out that this conveys false information and that it is necessary to distinguish whether the monument salutes Ban Tvrtko and glorifies the Bosnian title of a Ban, or glorifies the title of Nemanjić, where he declared himself Stefan Tvrtko Kotromanić the First, the king of Serbia, Bosnia, the Littoral and the Western areas, and that is a completely different title. She feels that the interpretation of Tvrtko Kotromanić, which is given with this monument for the purpose of a political-ideological contemporary message, is legally against the international conventions BiH signed, which is why it is unconstitutional. "It is necessary to separate the inaccuracies in the name of this historical figure from the message that the monument carries. For this reason, without ideological overtones, it is necessary to correctly write the titular by name and title," Gaćanović concluded. A monument to the Serbian ruler Stefan Tvrtko Kotromanić appeared during the night in Sarajevo, across from the BiH Presidency building, greeting in the morning, perhaps, the surprised citizens of this exclusively Bosniak part of Sarajevo.
