FRESH FLOWERS FOR UNFORGETTABLE WOUNDS, NINE YEARS SINCE THE MURDER OF DRAGAN ĐURIĆ

ZVORNIK, APRIL 27 /SRNA/ - Today in Zvornik, in front of the Police Station, a memorial service was held and wreaths were laid at the place of the murder of police officer Dragan Đurić /47/ in a terrorist attack nine years ago for which no one was held accountable.

The head of the Zvornik Police Department, Aleksandar Vasiljević, told reporters that no one was charged for this crime, that the suspects were released, and that after 18 months since the terrorist attack on the Police Station, on December 29, 2016, the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina suspended the investigation into this act under the explanation that the case is closed because there is not enough evidence. "Six months ago, that is, after eight and a half years since the terrorist attack, we got back the items that the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina had seized from the investigation, including weapons that are owned by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Republika Srpska," Vasiljević said. He pointed out that every year on this day, at the place of his death, due respect is paid to Dragan, as well as to other policemen who died while performing their regular duties and tasks. The mayor of Zvornik, Bojan Ivanović, said that it has been nine years since the terrorist attack on the police station in which Dragan Đurić, a model citizen and policeman, was killed. "It is a great tragedy for our city and I hope that it will not happen to anyone again. It remains an obligation to preserve the peace and safety of our fellow citizens, which is one of the prerequisites for moving forward," Ivanović stressed. Zvornik priest Miloš Zekanović said that Dragan Đurić was killed in a terrorist attack while he was on duty. "May the Lord give his family comfort in their great pain," said Archpriest Zekanović. The brother of the murdered policeman, Anđelko, said that this is a day of sadness and remembrance of Dragan, who lost his life young, and wished that what happened to the Đurić family would not happen to anyone again. Nine years ago today, around 7:00 p.m., during the handover of the shift at the Zvornik Police Station, a terrorist attack took place in which a member of the Wahhabi movement, Nerdin Ibrić /24/, from the Zvornik settlement Kučić Kula, killed police officer Dragan Đurić /47/ and injured police officer Stevo Milovanović and Željko Gajić. Ibrić drove up in front of the Police Station in a black "Golf 2" car and shouting "Allahu ekber" /Allah is great/ burst into the Police Station and started shooting with a rifle, the so-called "pump-action rifle". The terrorist was killed in the exchange of fire. In commemoration of this tragic event, representatives of the Zvornik Police Administration laid flowers on the grave of Dragan Đurić at the local cemetery in Karakaj, and laid wreaths in front of the Police Station at the place of Đurić's murder. Wreaths were also laid by Zvornik Mayor Bojan Ivanović, representatives of the Police Union, Veterans' Organization and the family and friends of the murdered Dragan Đurić.
