BEĆKOVIĆ: CULTURE IS SALVATION, WAY OUT AND SOLUTION
EAST ILIDŽA, SEPTEMBER 14 /SRNA/ - Academician Matija Bećković has said today in East Ilidža that culture is the salvation, the way out and the solution, that there should be no obstacles and borders for culture, as it should connect all peoples.
In the Žarko Vidović Gallery, where the permanent exhibition of Mileva Mica Todorović's paintings is exhibited and where the round table "Faith, freedom, art and suffering in the 20th century" was held, Bećković pointed out that Todorović and Vidović were martyrs who thought no one will ever remember them, so a gallery dedicated to them being opened in East Sarajevo is commendable. "What they dedicated their lives to, which is art, will outlive them here. They did not hope for that. When you read their records, you will notice that Mica Todorović said that she did not belong to any art style and that she was painting only her feelings and experiences and had her own style. However, thanks to these people who saw that there is salvation and a solution in culture, she still lives today," said Bećković. Speaking about Žarko Vidović, who, as he said, was his neighbour in Belgrade, Bećković stated that he too did not hope that his deeds would be remembered and that they would not be forgotten. "He was living in different cities through his life. In Belgrade, he did not miss anyone who meant anything in culture. He lived a long, died easily, left many manuscripts. At the end of his life, he was devoted to the church, religion," Bećković told the press. Vladislav Topalović, Dean of the Orthodox Faculty of Theology in Foča, emphasized the importance of the legacy of Žarko Vidović, who was also one of the first professors of the Faculty of Theology. "I would reduce his merits to one sentence, which is that he did what the classics of European theology did. They did the pre-theologizing of philosophy completely unexpectedly. That is exactly what Žarko Vidović did. That is why it is our duty to never forget him," said Topalović. The writer Muharem Bazdulj recalled that Mica Todorović and Žarko Vidović were Jasenovac inmates. "My idea is to shine the most light on this coincidence in their lives," said Bazdulj.
