BUKEJLOVIĆ: INVESTIGATE INFORMATION LEAK FROM THE VERDICT IN KOVAČEVIĆ CASE

ISTOČNO SARAJEVO, OCTOBER 24 /SRNA/ - Republika Srpska Minister of Justice Miloš Bukejlović, who will attend the public hearing in Strasbourg on the verdict in the "Kovačević v. BiH" case, told SRNA that he expects to receive the results of the investigation into the leaking of information from the Court of Human Rights verdict.

Bukejlović said that this had never happened in the history of this court. "The verdict leaked three days earlier and we expect to receive information, that is, the result of the verdict and for the Court to eventually decide that his /Kovačević's/ application is not even acceptable and that all legal remedies have not been exhausted," Bukejlović said. Bukejlović said that the Government of Republika Srpska recognized the importance of possible circumstances and repercussions that may result from the verdict in this case. "That is why at the previous session of the Government we had information from which we concluded that I, as the Minister of Justice, will participate, that is, attend the hearing before the Grand Council in Strasbourg," Bukejlović said. The Government of Republika Srpska previously agreed that due to the seriousness of the case, which is related to the electoral system of BiH and the very core of the Dayton Peace Accords, Minister Bukejlović will attend the public hearing behind the defendant BiH, scheduled before the Grand Chamber of the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg for November 20. Last year, the European Court of Human Rights issued a verdict in the case "Slaven Kovačević v. Bosnia and Herzegovina" in which it found that his rights were violated, as well as that the current political system strengthened ethnic divisions in the country and violated the democratic character of the elections. Kovačević complained that due to the combination of territorial and ethnic conditions that apply to the House of Peoples of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly, he could not vote for the candidates of his choice in the last general elections, which were held in 2022.
