TEAM FROM ELEMENTARY SCHOOL “SVETI SAVA” BEST IN WORLD CODING COMPETITION

NOVI GRAD, DECEMBER 5 /SRNA/ - The team from Elementary School "Sveti Sava" in Novi Grad won first place at the world online coding competition hosted by South Africa.

The mentor of the Novi Grad team, computer science teacher Gordana Vujanović, has said that 50 teams participated in the competition, which lasted 60 minutes. She emphasized the excellent organization of the event and the fact that communication was conducted exclusively in English, where the students from Novi Grad managed well. "We solved all levels in 18 minutes. It's block-based coding. Since we previously worked with Code.org's Hour of Code and the 'Scratch' programming language, we were able to adapt, although this used a different principle," said Vujanović. She emphasized that the team included students: captain Igor Jeremić /9th grade/, Nikša Repac /7th grade/, Dario Bjelajac /8th grade/, Balša Maran /8th grade/, and Savan Jovanić /9th grade/. Vujanović added that the Novi Grad team had received nearly one hundred trial tasks a few days before the competition, which the students successfully solved, boosting their confidence. "The winner's trophy will arrive in Novi Grad," Vujanović said. The competition was created at Nelson Mandela University in South Africa in honor of the country's former president, who dedicated his life to the fight for justice, equality, and human rights.
