ĆOSIĆ: PERPETRATORS MUST BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE, AND MEMORIAL PLAQUE ON VRACE WILL STAND AS A TESTAMENT TO HISTORY

SARAJEVO, April 28 /SRNA/ – The Mayor of East Sarajevo Ljubiša Ćosić expressed hope that the perpetrators of the latest desecration of the memorial plaque at Vrace will be held accountable, emphasizing that this incident speaks volumes about the other side, given that not a single Serb goes to Sarajevo to destroy plaques representing the Bosniak view of history.

"We will repair and refresh the plaque. It will remain as a symbol of the gathering of the Serb people during that time to defend their ancestral homes, their people, and their children," Ćosić told SRNA. Expressing hope that the perpetrator or perpetrators will receive misdemeanor charges and be held responsible for their actions, Ćosić stressed that any publicizing of such acts tends to encourage others to become "heroes" by damaging a plaque. According to him, no matter what Serbs may think about it, it has never occurred to anyone to do such a thing, whereas it seems that every more radical Bosniak is rushing to be the first to damage a memorial plaque in Republika Srpska. "We've known for a long time what they think of us. We will focus on ourselves, on Republika Srpska, and for those who do this, there will be a way for them to be held accountable before the law – although I believe their minds are in far worse condition than they realize," Ćosić concluded. An unknown perpetrator spilled thick green paint this morning over the memorial plaque at Vrace dedicated to General Ratko Mladić, which commemorates the self-organization of Serbs during the last war to defend their ancestral homes.
