IMMORTAL REGIMENT MARCH ENDS

BANJA LUKA, MAY 9 /SRNA/ - The Immortal Regiment march in Banja Luka has concluded as part of the commemoration of Victory Day.
The march proceeded along the city's main street, from Petar Kočić Park to the Fallen Fighters' Square, where wreaths were to be laid at the Monument to the Victims of Fascism, followed by speeches and an artistic program. Participants carried photographs of their ancestors who fought against fascism during the Second World War. In addition to numerous citizens and members of the SUBNOR, the march was attended by Republika Srpska Prime Minister Radovan Višković, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Srpska Anja Ljubojević, Advisor to the Republika Srpska President Marko Romić, envoy of the Serbian member of the BiH Presidency Boško Tomić, ministers in the Government of Srpska, and Speaker of the Banja Luka City Assembly Ljubo Ninković. The Immortal Regiment march was organized by the national patriotic association Immortal Regiment of Srpska, in cooperation with the Republika Srpska Government's Committee Nurturing the Tradition of Liberation Wars. Victory Day is commemorated on May 9 in remembrance of that date in 1945, when the unconditional surrender of Nazi Germany came into effect, marking the end of World War II in Europe. It was the most widespread and, in terms of human casualties, the most horrific conflict in human history, with around 60 million people killed. The Serbian people were at the forefront of the fight against fascism in the territory of the former Yugoslavia and suffered the greatest losses, while the Soviet Union made the most significant contribution to the defeat of fascism. The former Yugoslavia, which was on the side of the Allies both during that time and throughout history, endured the highest losses, estimated by the state commission of the former SFRY at 1.7 million people.
